Notes for Ellen Maroney
Died at childbirth of son John

This data comes from a long paper prepared by Paul C. Maroney. No date recorded but it had to be before 1983, when Paul died.

The only information available is from various sources -- She was married to Jabez Loakes. They lived, at one time, in a log cabin, on what is described as -- the east half of the South East quarter of Section number Eight (8) in Township number three (3) South of Range number Five (5) East, excepting and reserving twenty acres off from the north end of said lot.

In reply to a letter I, Paul Maroney, wrote to the Supervisor of Lodi Township, August 12, 1946, he wrote "Arthur Drake is between 75 and 80 years old, has lived most of his life in this township, he said Jabez Loakes lived on Ellsworth Road and Henry Feldkamp owns the land where the house was and it is not there anymore."

Paul Maroney relates that I do know that about 1930 my parents and I drove over where the log cabin had stood and found nothing. We did learn that the LOAKES had a son who was employed by the Michigan Wheelbarrow Co., in Lansing. We visited there once but my memory fails to recall anything about the trip. Later I wrote to the company, also to the city clerk and county clerk -- to no avail.

Paul reports that she had one son. He lived in Lansing, Michigan and worked for the Michigan Wheel Co.14
Notes for Jabus (Spouse 1)
Jabus Loakes (Loucks) was a well-liked and successful farmer. He went blind from cataracts in his later years and it was said was ruined by his son and son-in-law (Walter Coles), and that they "drank up" the farm.1
