According to a slip of paper in Edna Marie Meyerdirck Hoffman's writing Capt. Frederick Meyerdirch sailed from Bremen to Baltimore as ships owner and was broker of marine insurance as a Loyds [sic] agent in the Netherlands as well as being chief stock holder in the Netherlands S. American SS Line. His son John (Fredrich Meyerdirch's father) was connected in some way with Horstman Wholesale dry goods in Philadelphia. My understanding is that he sold fabric. Grandmother Meyerdirck said that he would take a suite at a hotel in Baltimore and display his goods. He married Amalia in Philadelphia. Supposedly she was from or her family was from Alsace Loraine.3
